Reviewing The Month On JeffRandleman.com

I don’t know what it might be like where you live, but around here, spring has definitely arrived! We have lots of pollen, warmer weather, tall grass that needs cut, and kids itching to be outside more than inside. And we are loving it!

Top Posts For April 2016

With spring in full swing, we are staying pretty busy. From kids’ activities, to church functions, to normal everyday life and stuff, we keep a pretty full schedule.

With all the blogs I maintain, there is always something to be written or posted. It’s awesome! And, in the middle of all of that, I am working on establishing a small side business, in the area of my photography hobby.

Needless to say, there is a lot going on around here.

In the realm of JeffRandleman.com, this week saw the beginning of a new memorization project. This year, I am striving to memorize the letter of 1 Peter. I posted an introduction to the letter over the weekend, and we will begin moving through this letter a few verses each week. I hope you’ll join me in this. It will be a great experience!

And now, in case you missed them, here are the top seven posts from JeffRandleman.com for the month of April, in terms of traffic.

Coffee Break – 05.02.2016

Your Monday Dose Of Inspiration

On this day in history: In 1890, the Oklahoma Territory was organized. In 1902, “A Trip to the Moon,” the first science fiction film was released. It was created by magician George Melies. You can find this movie reduced and “barcoded” on the Blackwing 1138 pencil (one of the best pencils ever!). And in 1974 – The filming of “Jaws” began in Martha’s Vineyard, MA.

Memorize Scripture: Introduction To 1 Peter

Hiding God’s Word In Our Hearts

One of the most practical of letters in the New Testament is Peter’s first epistle. In this short letter, he gives a vast amount of wisdom and input on how to live as strangers in this world, regarding ourselves as citizens of a heavenly kingdom. Although it may be short, 1 Peter is extremely challenging to our spiritual lives.

You can read the letter of 1 Peter here.

Memorize 1 Peter

Several years ago, I decided to make a stronger effort in my life to memorize Scripture. I began with the Sermon on the Mount, moved to a series of several key and favorite passages, and over the past few years, have worked on memorizing the letters of 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, and most recently, Philippians.

Sometimes this is easy, sometimes it becomes a bit more challenging. Some passages are easier to grasp than others it seems. But the effort has been well worth it, because I have a much more solid grasp on these portions of the Bible than I ever have before.

My next challenge to myself is to memorize Peter’s first letter. This letter is one of the most practical portions of the New Testament, giving some significant insights into daily matters, such as living with holiness, how to view authority, marriage and family relationships, and much, much more. 1 Peter only contains five brief chapters, but is packed full of some great input for our daily spiritual lives.

I plan to begin memorizing chapter one next week. This week, I want to give a brief overview of the letter and an introduction to 1 Peter.

Lukan Authorship Of Hebrews

Lukan Authorship Of Hebrews (Nashville, TN: Broadman & Holman Academic, 2010)

One of my favorite books of the Bible is the letter to the Hebrews. This is an informative letter, detailing the supremacy of Jesus over every other mode of worship, the Law of Moses, the priesthood, and more. It’s a wonderful piece of Scripture.

But it is unclear who the author is. Traditionally, Paul has been held in that regard, or possibly Apollos. There are even a few out there that believe it was Priscilla, who is mentioned as one of Paul’s coworkers in Acts. That’s possible, but unlikely.

One other option is Luke. Luke is someone that I have never really considered as a possibility, and most of the classes I had in college held to the traditional view of Paul’s authorship.

I am very interested to dig into David Allen’s Lukan Authorship Of Hebrews. This promises to be a very interesting journey, and I’m more excited about this book than I have been about a book in a long time.

Muhannad's Monsters

Muhammad’s Monsters (Green Forest, AR: Balfour Books, 2004)

Last weekend, we held a seminar at our church called The Cross Or The Crescent? Understanding The Differences Between Christianity And Islam. It was very informative. One of the books I picked up from that seminar was Muhammad’s Monsters, which strives to be a guide for understanding the radical nature of Islamic extremists.

Although it was published over a decade ago, and some of the material was very dated, it was still an interesting book. I have a chapter or two left to go before I finish, and I expect that it will be wrapped up before the weekend hits.

It’s a bit more difficult to read, simply because so many of the Arabic and Islamic terms are unfamiliar, and I have to keep referring to the glossary in the back, but it’s worth the effort.
