Book Review: The Coming Revolution by Dr. Richard G. Lee

The Coming RevolutionI’ve never really had much of an interest in politics. But with the gradual process of turning away from the faith of the Founding Fathers in America, my resolve has been challenged.

And after reading The Coming Revolution, I feel more challenged than ever to get involved.

Dr. Lee feels that we are on the verge of a revolution. Not a physical or a violent revolution like the American Revolution, but a revolution nonetheless. With several years spent studying American history and current issues, he feels that the signs are right for a change.

I have to admit, I agree for the most part.

Lee starts off by addressing the needs he sees in the current state of our government. And after tracing our nation’s roots from Plymouth Rock through the Revolutionary War, he shows us just what we’ve let slip away.

The question is, can we get it back?

Dr. Lee believes that we can. And I agree. Most of us can agree; there is a huge need facing our country right now. How we respond to it is critical. The problem lies in the fact that most people don’t think they need to respond. Apathy and complacency are rampant; someone else will step up, or things aren’t as bad as they seem.

But a response is needed. Who will take the initiative and step forward to get involved? Who will be the one to say “enough is enough”? What will be left of the great nation of the United States to hand to our children if we don’t do something about it now?

With an election approaching, the time is ripe for more and more people to let our elected representatives know how we feel. The time is ripe for a return to the faith of our Founding Fathers.

It’s time to step up. It’s time to get involved.

Most of the books I’ve read like this stop right there. The need is explained, a call is issued, and the book ends. But in The Coming Revolution, Lee takes this one step farther. He describes just what we can do to get involved and make America great again. He dedicates and entire chapter explaining different ways to get involved.

I know what I’m going to do. Do you?

Do you think we’ve drifted away from the principles of our Founding Fathers? If so, what can we do to restore America? You can leave your thoughts in the comments section below.

Book Review: Sherman: The Ruthless Victor by Agostino Von Hassell and Ed Breslin

Sherman: The Ruthless VictorThomas Nelson Publishing Company has released a series called The Generals, biographies of the great generals of American history. Several months ago, I read and reviewed Lee: A Life of Virtue.

I loved it. So when I had the chance to read and review another book in this series, I jumped at it.

This time around, I read Sherman: The Ruthless Victor. Again, I loved it. However, I have to say that I’m not a big fan of William Tecumseh Sherman.

Sherman was one of the first to implement the concept of “total war”, the goal being to leave your opponent unable to continue to fight. Early warfare was structured, armies facing each other across a field of battle, visible to one another. During the Revolutionary War, that started to change, as American colonists adopted native American methods of fighting.

By the time of the Civil War, this was becoming more accepted in war. But Sherman, along with Grant and a few others, began to take this concept one step farther: Not only did they use concealment as they fought; they attempted to annihilate the enemy’s ability to fight back. This meant destroying supply lines, ammunition stores, factories and industry, and anything else that would enable the enemy to continue to wage war.

Sherman took this too far by destroying homes and possessions that didn’t fit into this criteria.

While I’m not a fan of Sherman, I did love the book. It was well written and very informative. It was definitely worth reading. If you are a history buff, especially of the Civil War era, I suggest you pick up a copy and read it. You won’t be able to put it down.

Book Review: Be The People by Carol M. Swain

Be The PeopleBe The People is a book that every person in America needs to read.

Subtitled A Call To Reclaim America’s Faith And Promise, this book establishes a rallying point for Americans to reclaim the foundations our forefathers built this nation upon.

Dr. Carol M. Swain has issued a challenge for us: to either step up and reclaim our nation, or let it slide forever into history.

Dr. Swain takes a close look at several key issues that America is facing, some of which we’ve been dealing with for decades. Regardless of where you stand politically, Dr. Swain offers answers that are worth attempting.

Dealing with explosive issues such as religion, abortion, race, immigration and family, Dr. Swain hits us right where we live. She exposes how the majority of American people are not satisfied with the state of our nation, a fact that the media refuses to acknowledge.

Dr. Swain’s examination of several key issues facing America today is exactly what we need to hear. Sounding a call for the American people to reclaim our nation, Dr. Swain has given us a choice: either take action, or allow apathy to completely destroy our nation.

I know which choice I prefer. Do you?

Do you agree with Dr. Swain’s assessment of America? What can you do about it? You can leave your thoughts in the comments section below.

Why Does A Young Creation Have The Appearance Of Being Old?

One of the most frequent questions I hear regarding the Creation/evolution discussion concerns the appearance of age. How can the universe be so young when it looks old?

Eagle Nebula

Taken at face value, Genesis presents us with a dilemma. If we read the Creation account literally, we find that the earth and the universe were created around 6000 years ago. This is in direct opposition to what the evolutionary model of our origins tells us. Currently, the evolutionary model estimates that the universe is 13.6 billion years old. But which view is correct?

If we truly accept God’s Word as infallible, then we need to trust it in all matters, including science. Anytime science disagrees with Scripture, we have to assume that science doesn’t have all the facts. Throughout history, the Bible has repeatedly been shown to be accurate in scientific matters, as well as all manner of other areas. So, Genesis must be correct concerning the age of our universe as well. Our knowledge is limited, finite. We need to trust that God knows all the answers, even though we may not. Why are we so quick to ignore the God of Creation concerning matters that he obviously know more about than we do?

The American Patriots’ Almanac – by William J. Bennett & John T.E. Cribb

The American Patriot's AlmanacOne of my favorite subjects is history, especially American history. I love learning about the people who were a part of the foundations of our nation, and the people who have made a difference throughout our nation’s history.

The American Patriot’s Almanac just made getting my history fix a whole lot easier. Composed of short, concise readings about significant events, known and unknown, in American history, the Almanac allows you to read a little piece of history each day. Of course, you could gorge yourself, and read it all at once, also.

This fascinating Almanac will make a great additional resource for our homeschool history classes. And the stories told aren’t found in most other history books, so our kids are pretty intrigued.

The American Patriot’s Almanac provides the opportunity to learn about the history, heroes, and achievements that compose our great nation.

I loved initially paging through the book, as well as a second, more in-depth, reading.

If you are a history buff, then this one is for you! Check it out today.
