Waiting On The Second Coming

One of the things I hear very often, especially when I’m around people who love to study prophecy and the end times, is that it is likely that the Lord will return “within our lifetimes.”

Stopwatch, Second Coming

My personal opinion of this is that it just might be the case. However, we can’t be dogmatic about it, because we simply don’t know. People have been saying the exact same thing for a very long time, since the time of Paul the Apostle. So, while we can’t know the day or the time that Christ will return, there are a few things that we can do to make sure that we are ready.

People have been anticipating the coming of the Lord since Paul wrote 2 Thessalonians, and Christ himself referenced his return several times. Paul had to address believers in Thessalonica who were quitting their jobs. Their reasoning was, “If Christ is returning soon, why work?” In response to this, Paul had to lay down the law, and state that those who don’t work, won’t eat (2 Thessalonians 3:12). Even so soon after the time of Christ, people were looking for the end of days.

Book Review – The Israeli Solution by Caroline B. Glick

Affiliate Link: The Israeli SolutionI’m not one to read books that are politically based examinations on current events. That’s not my thing. But recently, I’ve been reading a lot concerning the nation of Israel. From Israel’s role in prophecy to even a Messianic Jewish examination of Christ, Israel has been frequently on my reading list as of late.

The Israeli Solution, however, is different.

This book takes a deeper look at the nation of Israel and the Middle Eastern conflict, in which Israel plays a prominent role.

The author, Caroline B. Glick, takes a deep look at what may be the solution for peace in the Middle East. The major source of conflict seems to revolve around the relationship between Israel and the Palestinians.

Most of the solutions offered over the past couple of decades involve a two state plan, establishing an official state for Palestine. The track record for this shows that it really won’t work. It hasn’t, and it shows no signs of working in the near future.

This is mostly due to the fact that Palestine is committed to the destruction of Israel, along with much of the Muslim world.

Top Posts For May 2014

Summer has hit. School is out. Vacation has begun. Camp is in session, and several of my kids are planning on attending this summer. Life is crazy fun and in full swing. And it’s good!

May 2014 Word Picture from Wordle.net

It was a busy month around here. In between all of the normal church and family events, we had three funerals and a trip to Oklahoma packed into the past few weeks.

Add to that the specifics of a new theme and look for this website, adjustments to the front page over on DeliberateDads.com, and a few other things, like studying for my class, it’s been a pretty full month.

However, even though summer is typically pretty busy, I’m no longer in youth ministry, so my camp schedule has been greatly reduced, and I’m looking forward to having something like a normal schedule for the summer. That will be nice.

With the new look of JeffRandleman.com, and a few new features, there will be several new things that will become more consistent around here. For example, each Saturday, I share a quote that I find inspirational. I will continue to post meaningful quotes, but the format will change from an image to something more like this. Also, I will be able to share new books I purchase and books that I’m reading, and that I think you might find interesting. Book posts will look like this. And there will be other brief snippets of info scattered here and there, such as announcements, tips, events, and more!

Be The Dad She Needs You To Be

Be The Dad She Needs You To Be (Nashville, Tennessee: Thomas Nelson, 2014)

As a father of three daughters, this book caught my eye. This book by Dr. Kevin Leman is a call to dads to step it up when it comes to their daughters. Daughters need a dad that is loving, and is actively engaged in their life. Dr. Leman claims that this father-daughter relationship is the most important relationship in her life.

This promises to be a great resource for dads of daughters to add to their arsenal. Look for my full review in a few days.  In the meantime, you can find it on Amazon.com.

Memorize Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:8-9

Paul’s description of the false teachers needs something to compare it to. He shares a reference to an Old Testament event that most people are familiar with, although these particular names are not mentioned in that account.

You can see this week’s passage, found in 2 Timothy 3:8-9:

2 Timothy 3:8-9

Paul gives Timothy a reference for comparison as he deals with the false teachers in Ephesus. He refers back to the Old Testament account of the Exodus, and Pharaoh’s unwillingness to allow the Israelites to leave Egypt. As Moses struggled to achieve freedom for his people, he was opposed by two of Pharaoh’s magicians or sorcerers, Jannes and Jambres. These two men are the magicians referred to in Exodus 7:11-12, 22, and 8:7. Although their names are not listed in the Exodus account, they are identified in ancient Jewish literature, beginning about the time between the Testaments.

Timothy was faced with false teachers who were opposed to the truth of God just as these two men were in the day of Moses and the Exodus. Simply put, seeking truth from alternative sources is always in opposition to God and his truth. There is no other means by which truth is delivered to us, outside of God, through is Son and his Word.

Never tell a young person that something cannot be done. God may have been waiting centuries for somebody ignorant enough of the impossible to do that thing.
