Memorize Scripture – Week 6

One of the things I’m most concerned about in my life is the legacy I am leaving for my children. This is one of the main reasons I journal fastidiously.

I want to make sure that I live my life in such a way that my top priority, in my life, my marriage, my family, my job, is always and only my God.

I crave a singleness of heart like Jeremiah speaks of in this week’s passage. Take a look at Jeremiah 32:39:

Jeremiah 32:39

I am confident that if I live my life to the best of my ability for God and his purposes, then my children will see that and choose to follow that path as well.

I am confident that if I succeed in establishing the most dynamic ministry out there, but lose my family, then I have failed.

I am confident that if I teach and uphold biblical principles to my children, then they will be armed with the knowledge to face what the world has to offer and make the right choices.

I am confident that when God says that fearing him is for my own good, and for the good of my children, he has my best interests at heart.

I am confident. That is why I hope.

The only foundation for a useful education in a republic is to be laid in religion.  Without this there can be no virtue, and without virtue there can be no liberty, and liberty is the object and life of all republican governments.

Eight Ways To Build Rest Into Your Life

Leadership is hard.

And too many leaders burn out.

One of the main reasons for this is that we don’t rest.

Hammock

Making sure we get enough rest is crucial to staying a healthy leader.

I’m not just referring to getting enough sleep at night. I’m talking about the slowing down, allowing a breather into your life, preventing you from draining yourself before it’s too late kind of rest. I’m talking about taking the time to refuel and refill yourself so that you can continue to be the leader you need to be.

Deep rest is critical. Without it we will drain ourselves, preventing effective leadership, and open ourselves up to failure, temptation, and more.

While rest is critical, most of us don’t know how to do it. Here are eight ways to build rest into your life.

Memorize Scripture – Week 5

A few nights ago, I was at the high school for a basketball game. As I pulled up, the sun was setting, and this is what I saw:

Ozarks Sunset in January

It reminded me of this week’s passage, which speaks of the majesty of God. Take a look at Psalm 57:5:

Psalm 57:5

When I think of the majesty of God, some of the first things that come to mind are images of God’s creation: sunsets, mountain ranges, waterfalls.

How great is our God who gave us such a variety of beauty!

We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion.  Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net.  Our Constitution is designed only for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate for any other.

Book Review: The Coming Revolution by Dr. Richard G. Lee

The Coming RevolutionI’ve never really had much of an interest in politics. But with the gradual process of turning away from the faith of the Founding Fathers in America, my resolve has been challenged.

And after reading The Coming Revolution, I feel more challenged than ever to get involved.

Dr. Lee feels that we are on the verge of a revolution. Not a physical or a violent revolution like the American Revolution, but a revolution nonetheless. With several years spent studying American history and current issues, he feels that the signs are right for a change.

I have to admit, I agree for the most part.

Lee starts off by addressing the needs he sees in the current state of our government. And after tracing our nation’s roots from Plymouth Rock through the Revolutionary War, he shows us just what we’ve let slip away.

The question is, can we get it back?

Dr. Lee believes that we can. And I agree. Most of us can agree; there is a huge need facing our country right now. How we respond to it is critical. The problem lies in the fact that most people don’t think they need to respond. Apathy and complacency are rampant; someone else will step up, or things aren’t as bad as they seem.

But a response is needed. Who will take the initiative and step forward to get involved? Who will be the one to say “enough is enough”? What will be left of the great nation of the United States to hand to our children if we don’t do something about it now?

With an election approaching, the time is ripe for more and more people to let our elected representatives know how we feel. The time is ripe for a return to the faith of our Founding Fathers.

It’s time to step up. It’s time to get involved.

Most of the books I’ve read like this stop right there. The need is explained, a call is issued, and the book ends. But in The Coming Revolution, Lee takes this one step farther. He describes just what we can do to get involved and make America great again. He dedicates and entire chapter explaining different ways to get involved.

I know what I’m going to do. Do you?

Do you think we’ve drifted away from the principles of our Founding Fathers? If so, what can we do to restore America? You can leave your thoughts in the comments section below.

Scripture Stickies: And The Winner Is…

Last week, I wrote a review of Scripture Stickies, Post-It notes printed with passages of Scripture that can help you memorize.

Along with my review, I presented three opportunities to win a set of Scripture Stickies for yourself.

These things are pretty cool. It’s such a simple concept. You take one and stick it where you’ll see it frequently. Every time you see it and read it, you’re that much closer to memorizing it.

Scripture Stickies

I had three packets to give away, to three commenters. However, only one person left a comment. She will receive all three packets: Friendship, Love, and Get Well Soon.

And so, the winner is…

Trisha Irvin!

Each packet that Trisha receives comes with ten stickies, two each of five verses on any given topic. That’s a total of 30 Scripture Stickies that Trisha will be able to stick around her home! That’s pretty cool.

Don’t forget…

Readers of JeffRandleman.com receive an additional bonus when they order Scripture Stickies! If you make a purchase from ScriptureStickies.com, enter the code “RANDLEMAN” at checkout to receive a ten percent discount and free shipping!

Congratulations to Trisha Irvin. I hope these Scripture Stickies are a fun and encouraging resource enabling her to memorize more passages from God’s Word.
